August 1999: Creating a Concrete Abstract

The assignment was to prepare a biography and abstract for an internationally prominent consultant for the third largest industry in the United States. A process of sorting, organizing, categorizing, condensing and highlighting thousands of words and 40 pages of information produced the package we handed to a woman who has changed our world for the better.

JoAnn Hines is a packaging expert and package development specialist with more than 25 years of international experience. Ms. Hines has led and participated in development/investment missions throughout the United States and abroad. Her knowledge of importing and exporting assists emerging countries in their agribusiness ventures. As a liaison with the U.S. Partners and the Cochran Fellowship Programs, and Chamber of Commerce she advises and instructs packaging specialists from developing countries on the intricacies of packaging in the United States and abroad. Her assistance with technology transfer has impacted the packaging development of Armenia, Chile, China, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Madagascar, Poland, Romania, and South Africa.

As founder and executive director of Women in Packaging, JoAnn Russell Hines has managed and directed the professional association and its 13 national chapters and 800 international members since 1993. An independent consultant since 1988, she provides short-term technical assistance in package development, agribusiness, competitive intelligence, and expert witness testimony. Ms. Hines is an accomplished author, speaker and publisher with more than 25 years’ experience assisting emerging countries in agribusiness ventures and technology transfers, training industry affiliates, mentoring and consulting with institutions of higher education, and producing national conferences and seminars.
